Sooooo good! Giant pancakes, killer sausage and great service! Can't wait to come back tomorrow :) Almost forgot the fresh squeezed OJ, a must have!
(5)Susie R.
If you've got the time, make sure to stop by the Pancake Shop. The wait is a bit long due to limited seating but this is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Hot Springs. The menu is basic but it doesn't need all the frills because it covers just about any breakfast desire you might be craving. We love the friendly staff and always get good service here. Make sure you check out the Pantry next door while you wait!
(4)Kathleen Marie J.
Ate here right before we hit the road to home in Cincinnati this morning. Four hours later on the road, the banana/Apple/blueberry pancake is sitting very nicely in my stomach. I loved the homemade butter and used them on my pancake/toast. My boyfriend quaffed down their fresh orange juice and commented on how great their coffee is (he is a coffee snob). The service was very quick and friendly. If we get a chance to return to this town, we're definitely hitting up this place for breakfast again. :) The pancakes are gigantic and so fluffy, by the way! Try one!
(5)Jack H.
Great breakfast here! It's that old school diner feel, waitresses call you honey or darling; nakes you feel so warm and fuzzy! Great pancakes and apple butter and the sausage...wow it's delicious! Locally raised and prepared; best I ever ate!
(5)Stephanie G.
Dont eat here! Its absolutely too awesome for the average breakfast goer. The flavors could potentially be too powerful and the friendly service so overwhelming, it might bring you to tears. But if you're brave enough, if you dare, go at noon when the rush has ended and ask for Jayne. I hear she's one hell of a fisherman! Wonderful as always :0)
(5)Vanessa E.
This was my first time in the city of Hot Springs ever. I saw that this restaurant came highly recommended. We had to wait 45min-1hour, but it was worth the wait! My Advice, stroll around the shops while your waiting. The prices are great and food delicious! Excellent and fast service. I got the 2 eggs and bacon plate. I requested both coffee and orange juice. The orange juice is FRESH! If you like a simple breakfast, this is the place for you. If your a pancake person, try the Buckwheat Pancakes!
(5)Erik J.
This breakfast was as good as it gets. Not a lot of frills but the service was impeccable! I had the ham and cheese omelet, and the egg was cooked perfectly and the pieces of ham were juicy and succulent! They are only open from 6am to 1245pm but they have a way to keep you occupied as you wait. There is a shop next door, that is also owned by the same people that own the restaurant, this small shop sells jellies and jams and several other small things that will keep you occupied as you wait for your name to be called to sit down and eat your scrumptious food!

I have no idea how this place has such good reviews, our food was terrible! I ordered the "delicious French toast" and even asked if it was made with cinnamon and things. The waitress said yes so I ordered it. My mom had a bite and immediately asked, "Did they deep fry it? It tastes like grease." It came with powdered sugar dumped all over it and had no taste, other than the grease... Her pancakes were barely cooked and mushy, even without syrup on them. The bacon looked and tasted microwaved. Neither one of us finished our food and will not be back. Coffee was just okay and service was slow. Not to mention they couldn't work the register and it took 10 minutes to pay for our food.
(1)Ellen C.
The buckwheat pancakes were very good and the buckwheat finely ground. Disappointing that you can't pay a little extra and sub pancakes for toast that is served automatically with all eggs. Caused me to skip eggs because I didn't want to waste toast
(3)Taylor H.
The food was delicious, I got the buckwheat pancake and sausage. The pancake was so good, the sausage was legit. We waited for approximately 15 minutes and wandered at the Pantry store next door and ate samples and drank free coffee. The only complaint I have for this place is that the environment was extremely loud, I couldn't hear my partner talking unless he yelled!
(4)Mikako D.
Their pancake was little salty and too much cost. ONE blueberry pancake was over $3.00. I had One egg & sausage combo which is comes with toast but I told them I don't need toast because I ordered one pancake and I was not expecting they charge me regular pancake price but they did. Orange juice was fresh squeezed and it was good.
(2)Rowan C.
Amazing food and amazing service. Everything tasted fresh and smelled delicious. We did have to wait but it was no more than 5 minutes.
(5)Alie C.
Came at 8 AM on the 4th of July with a party of 7, and we were seated impressively fast (though the line was very long when we left at 9!) I tried the eggs and sausage plate with toast and a buckwheat blueberry pancake, with coffee and OJ. It was standard, hearty home style cooking. My eggs were pretty undercooked, but the amazing sausage patties and tasty, fluffy pancake made up for it. The coffee was fabulous and the OJ was good too. A little on the expensive side for what it is, but you're paying for the experience too. We had a nice time and will go back.
(4)J P.
Basically, about the only place for Breakfast in town. Small place - so wait is long, too long. They need more space. They do supply free coffee at their shop next door which offers other goodies, including samples. Good marketing to say the least. Pancakes are good, but nothing to scream about. Had the grain pancakes with blueberries. Problem is the pancakes have a tough skin and are too dry. Hint - make thinner batter (use bisquick) - don't leave them on the griddle too long. Fluffier and more tasty. Sausage is very good - and plentiful. They give you 2 full hamburger sized patties. Way more than you can eat. Orange juice fresh squeezed as advertised and most excellent. Good service. Definitely would go back if I ever hit Hot Springs again - which would be very doubtful. Hot Springs is one dump....
(4)Bill F.
Pancake Shop. Another must stop for all those and go with the fresh squeezed OJ and blueberry pancakes. Best service in town.
(5)A C.
Quick seating but it was a party of one so that may be reason. I sat at the counter which was VERY uncomfortable for tall people. Yikes! At one point she even asked me to move over to seat a group. No way! I already had to sit sideways. The food was good. I could taste the butter in my eggs. Good portion size. All in all good experience and quick service.
(4)Beth C.
OMG! Wonderfully delicious pancakes and ham! Planning to go back tomorrow for breakfaat before heading out.
(5)Denise B.
Great little breakfast place. Great coffee, great omelets. Service was fast and friendly. Lot of places in tourist towns are over priced and not really friendly. This place was the opposite! We were greeted as soon as we walked in, my coffee cup stayed full, my son drinks a lot of water, he was never looking for a refill. The server was right there! Definitely would recommend.
(5)Sarah D.
We went to Hot Springs for a little New Year's exploring with my in-laws. It was a great, albiet interesting trip. (Overall, I imagine that it's a little better to visit Hot Springs around the summertime, as a lot of the little shops and restaurants were closed.) The Pancake Shop has been featured in Garden and Gun, among other national magazines. It didn't disappoint. Pancakes were delicious, the coffee was good and plentiful- the ham steak was HUGE. The service- that was a highlight. The service was on point, which is sometimes lacking in some favorite places of mine in Memphis. And I cannot forget to mention the cute retro feel of this place--- I'm not talking about the horse-racing decor, I'm talking about the customers (hehe). You can tell this has been a local favorite for decades. Overall, I would certainly return.
(4)Annie H.
Best pancakes we ever ate. We went because of yelp rating and so glad. Get there early because it's a small place and not many tables. There is a waiting crowd to get in. They are worth the wait
(5)Jay R.
The Pancake Shop was just what we needed... Girlfriend weekend just wouldnt have been the same. One of the locals suggested we try this place and so glad we stopped here. Robert our server was awesome. Considering we got there right before they closed he was still accomodating and pleasant and funny. Food came out pretty quickly and was soo good. I'm not a huge sausage fan but the 2 sausage patties that came with the platter were huge and probably the best tasting I've ever eaten. I ate every last drop of my blueberry pancakes with plenty of whipped butter and warm syrup. While I'm pretty tough on restaurants and rarely EVER give 5 stars I dont know when I'll be back to Hot Springs and am basing my ratings on my first impression. What also helps is the lovely ladies I was with all quite enjoyed their meal as well. No wonder they were on the food network...
(5)Ken J.
The BEST pancakes on the face of the earth! I left Hot Springs 16 years ago and still dream about them daily. If you are lucky enough to be on Central Ave in the morning, this is a MUST. TIP - The closer to 12pm you go, the less of a wait time you'll have.
(5)Jon F.
Wow, we came on the day of a 5k race in town and we were there before the race was over so we beat most of the folks in. A grumpy old man with a New York accent waited on us and apparently we were holding him up from leaving. We could overhear him telling this to other people..... That aside, we were hungry for some pancakes. We weren't sure how much to order as pancakes often vary in size and many of the reviews said they were pretty big. We asked and were told they were "plate sized". So we ordered 2 planning to split them. Mine didn't even fill the middle section of a medium sized plate. I could have fit the entire thing in my mouth. That's not a big pancake in my book. My wife's was bigger, but not by much. They tasted good, but nothing special really. We also got a large fresh squeezed OJ (again, per Yelp reviews). Large must mean something different to these people. It, again, was more of a medium sized glass. Please understand, this isn't portion distortion. I don't eat at McDonalds. I'm average-sized. They just really didn't deliver based on the reviews I read and their own descriptions. I wouldn't waste my time going here, honestly, even though there is apparently a wait every weekend. Don't bother.
(1)Anne Marie M.
Don't be fooled by the old reviews, they now accept credit cards! I've been coming here with family since I was little and am never disappointed by the delicious pancakes and lovely people who work here. If you come on a weekend during dinner, you will wait, but it's worth it. On a Tuesday morning, we walked right in and got our coffee and orange juice (fresh squeezed and delicious). Even though there was a large group right ahead of us, we were served quickly :) The food was as amazing as I always remembered, hope y'all have the same experience.
(5)Leland B.
I loved this place the food was great and the staff was very friendly. The servings are very large and plentiful
(5)Rachael A.
Food was about what you'd expect from a diner in a small tourist town. I had two eggs with rye toast and half a grapefruit. Perfectly satisfying. The toast came with house made apple butter which was delicious and the coffee was nice and fresh. The service at this place is amazing. The wait staff (all smiles) work as a team to make sure diners are happy. My coffee never went empty and I felt really at home. Love this place!!!
(5)J E.
Old school. The real deal. Strong coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, homemade butter, apple butter and homemade syrup. Not greasy spoon.
(5)Jeffrey W.
Such great service! You got to get the Ham steak... And the coffee is so good you want to take it home! Ask for the Texas omelette with bacon, sausage, ham, onions and peppers! They will not disappoint!
(5)Andrew H.
Best homemade breakfast I've eaten in a looooong time hands down! Soooo worth the money and it's not even expensive! Seriously! The food here is from heaven. And the folks are nice too. This is the best breakfast restaurant experience I've had in my entire life.
(5)Kelly K.
Delicious buckwheat pancakes. They have real butter if you ask for it otherwise you'll get a margarine/butter mix. Wish they had real maple syrup though. Ham steak was very tasty though too big for one person and I got the small. It would be nice if there was an even smaller piece as it cost seven and change for the ham. So breakfast was over 10 dollars. The place is small and casual.
(4)Samantha P.
I am a southern breakfast food lover. This place definitely didn't disappoint! The fresh squeezed OJ, smooth coffee, the ham, and toast with homemade apple butter.. To die for. Staff was friendly and service was fast. Robert was my server and had a wonderful personality! Can't wait to go back! Get the orange juice you won't be disappointed.. So much better than that watered down stuff at most restaurants.
(5)Jay N.
That. Was. Greatness! Wonderful pancakes, bacon, sausage, juice, and great atmosphere. Family friendly and easy on the wallet walking distance from just about anywhere in downtown. I'll come back the next time we're in town.
(5)Jay J.
Overpriced ($4 for two sausage patties). French toast was deep fried and had tons of powdered sugar on it. Buckwheat blueberry pancakes were good but two blueberries on top and no choice of jam. Service slow on refills.
(3)Bill L.
Great pancakes served the old way. Well worth the line, so get a newspaper before putting your name on the list.
(4)Jen T.
This place is delicious. there is a bit of a wait if you are going with a group, there were seven of us and we waited about 40 minutes, so not too bad. Once inside it felt like an old fashioned diner, the service was great, and the pancakes...oh the pancakes. I had the apple pancakes and they were so yummy, and big, they filled the entire plate. Everything was good and we all left satisfied, I will definitely be back if I go back to HS. It was also loud enough that the three kiddos we were with didn't cause any kind of a stir. You have to find parking on the street which can be tricky, make sure you take cash, or coins, having only debit cards and needing to park don't mix.
(5)Adam C.
Best Breakfast Place Ever!! This is a great place for breakfast with very large pancakes, fresh squeezed orange juice and the friendliest staff in Hot Springs. Make a point to stop in while in town.
(5)Tahnee K.
Ordinary breakfast. Basic menu. Wait was way too long and longer than predicted. If we had known what we would get, we would have kept walking.
(2)Crystal Diane D.
This little joint sent us right down memory lane, leaving us nostalgic, happy, and satisfied. We went in just needing a place to get dry, warm up with a cup of coffee, and we thrill as we stepped through the door and were thrust back in time. The diner was full and buzzing, the host was bright, and food smelled amazing. I loved every detail of the place, including the old laminated menus. Because I had already eaten I just ordered a glass of tomato juice along with the coffee. My partner couldn't resist ordering food, he got the special (it's a permanent fixture on the menu) everything was perfection. I wish I had been hungry enough to eat more than a bite! Our server was on top of things, friendly, and gave us good suggestions of places to try. Loved it!
(5)Mindy A.
All I can say is that Food Network got it right!! Wonderful breakfast and simply lovely staff!! Love how they have tried to keep everything original. The pancakes were delicious and so was the coffee!!
(5)Ashley U.
Where do we begin?? We had breakfast at The Colonial first. Good...but not The Pancake Shop! While I was disappointed to not be able to have hash browns, you really don't care by the end of the meal! THEY HAVE THE BEST ORANGE JUICE IN HOT SPRINGS! The entire staff was top-notch! You never felt awkward or out of place, not even through the duration of the Saturday morning wait! Yes, they sent us to the store next door, and yes, we made several purchases! Do we have any buyer's remorse? Not at all! The only thing I didn't like about being sent next door was that we could not purchase that amazing jam/jelly/whatever that was served at The Pancake Shop! You can count on our appearance, each time we are in Hot Springs! We are also not shy about directing our friends to this gem!
(5)Shannon S.
Generous portions & good, hearty breakfast food. The buckwheat pancakes were amazing, and I really loved the apple butter & jelly.
(4)Todd S.
This is an old-school breakfast experience. This place has not changed in 40 years, it might as well be a Mad Men set. Just the basic eggs and pancakes here, nothing exotic. My scrambled eggs were good and not the least bit runny. The service is fast, but the tables are packed in a little tight.
(4)Travis B.
Read so many reviews on this place we had to go here. They get busy so make sure and go at a decent time, the manager makes sure you get seated and pretty fast. The coffee is the best in town, and the portions of food are plenty. I got the buckwheat pancakes which are naturally gluten free and were wow along with my plate of eggs and perfect bacon this is a promo spot and has been around since 1940. I recommend this to anyone and can't wait to go back.
(4)Grant B.
Great place for breakfast. Ordered two buckwheat pancakes with blueberries. Filled me up! And I'm a 6' 5" Texan! Great coffee too! *cash only* would be 5 stars if they took cards.
(4)Scott L.
Great pancakes! I got the blueberry and loved it. I also loved the coffee, bacon and sausage. A great breakfast spot.
(4)Larry G.
Good, not great. It is a nice, quaint place in downtown Hot Springs. The eggs were perfect, cooked just the war we ordered them. The scrambled eggs were light, fluffy, and very tasty. I ordered the ham after reading a previous review. I wasn't impressed. Again, good not great. The service was ok, again not great, but good. I disagree about the coffee - it is better at English Muffin. The food in general was much better at English Muffin, but we liked the ambience at the Pancake Shop. They do take credit cards, but not for the tip.
(3)Nick B.
This place is as good as the reviews stated. Fresh squeezed orange juice, homemade sausage and pancakes. We had to wait about 40 minutes to get in but it was worth it. We got our food quick. It was pricey for breakfast but I'd still come back.
(5)David D.
Vacationed in Hot Springs for a week and this was the worst meal I had. They do only breakfast. I had a ham and cheese omelet. I ordered it with mushrooms but was told that they didn't have any. The waitress said the portions were big. Nope, average at best. I also ordered a plain pancake and luckily they didn't screw that up. Now, what do you normally pay for a two person breakfast? $18-$21 at the most. Our bill less tip was $25.99. That is a poor value for a typical breakfast that you could find anywhere. Here is something else that is very unprofessional, the person running the cash register is filling her face with a salad while working. There is a thing called a lunch break. Customers don't want to watch you stuff your mouth and then get up and take our money. The place is old and tired and crowded. Defiantly is the last time I set foot in that place.
(1)Roger L.
A very quaint atmosphere. The host was very attentive and kind and directed us to some free coffee next door while we waited for our table. We came for breakfast so it was definitely crowded. Not a very private atmosphere as you are practically sitting with the people at the table next to you. As for the food, the sausage patty is hand rolled and was absolutely delicious. Also the game steak was to die for. All of the jams came from the savory pantry next door and were all very flavorful and not overly sweet. Definitely try the apple butter! Also had the blueberry pancake and the blueberries were definitely in season. Overall, a great breakfast experience.
(5)Ron R.
Be prepared to wait, but it's worth it. The service was very quick and friendly. The fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious. my wife had the omelette and I had scrambled egg whites, bacon, and two buckwheat pancakes. everything was delicious and I thought the price was reasonable.
(5)Hayley S.
Great, classic diner with just the kind of breakfast you need to trek all over downtown Hot Springs. We had blueberry pancakes and plain (they were anything but), and the fresh orange juice is a must. Grab a pound of coffee to take home on your way out!
(5)Barry S.
This is the second time I've eaten breakfast here. Once about 8 yrs ago and a second time yesterday! It tastes the same way 8 yrs ago then it did now!! Amazing food and great portions! Had that small town hole in the wall feel and great food! Looks like an old tradition type place and love my breakfast. I'm from Texas and don't travel to Hot Springs often but I will go here every chance I get!!
(5)Craig M.
I have been coming to this place for years, and I am always astounded to see that nothin has changed. This is a good thing, since they have it exactly right.
(5)Ann G.
Food was ok. I ordered pancake. My husband ordered egg with cheese inside. The thing I didn't like was there was plastic thing in the food...anyways it wasn't bad. In the morning be prepared waiting in line.
(4)Sarah D.
We stopped here for breakfast on our cross country roadtrip and it was the best one we've had! Wonderful service, fresh ingredients and the best apple butter in the world! Thanks! xx
(5)trent t.
Awesome buckwheat pancakes, sausage is the best I've tasted, hand formed large pattys, the pancakes were just the right size and whipped butter and syrup were provided to top it off, super delicious hot coffee and ice cold milk. This is a pancake lovers paradise, service was quick and very friendly. Crowded and a line on a busy morning but it was well worth the wait.
(5)Michael B.
This highly overrated place is one place I will never dine at again. We had a long wait for some very mediocre food. The prices were high for breakfast(35.00 for 2) and they serve no hash browns or biscuits and gravy. The coffee was awful and left a sludge at the bottom of the cup yet they have the nerve to sell it by the bag to take home. The service was a little slow but they were trying to serve far more people than the place could handle. I was told this was normal after 8 am on a weekend. The "hand squeezed" orange juice they are so proud of was bitter and 5 dollars for a small glass. All in all it was a disappointment to a breakfast lover like myself. ...No I am not remembering somewhere else...Nice try though
(1)Amalia G.
This place is amazing!! They have the BEST pancakes!!! They literally melt in your mouth!! Great omelets too!!
(5)Kera M.
Delicious food!!!! Everything was amazing and fresh! The service was courteous and fast. Excellent place!
(5)Brian T.
We got pancakes and ham and cheese omelet everything was fresh including the hand squeezed oj one suggestion add hash browns to the menu other that lived up to all the buzz!! Must eat for bfast while in hot springs
(4)Ginger G.
Very friend staff and quick service. Everything is a la carte on the menu so it can become pricey quick. For example we wanted bacon with our pancake and to add bacon and eggs it was around $6.00. They are known for their buckwheat pancakes and we aren't used to that, so it was very different. We went, but probably wouldn't go back again.
(3)Kristi P.
Highs: Delicious bacon!!! Seemingly fresh English muffin, apple butter. Lows: A single large group can dominate the small restaurant. Loud kids practically stood at our table yelling for half of our breakfast. If visiting Hot Springs and in need of breakfast, def. go here for an easy, quick diner style breakfast.
(3)Lan N.
I hate going to restaurants that turn out to be nothing more than hype. This is some sort of local establishment...and apparently, the thing to get here is the blueberry buckwheat pancakes. I don't know how buckwheat changes up things, but I like my pancakes with a buttery crust on the outside, and soft and thick in the middle. These were floppy and thin overpriced pancake. They do come quite large, so this is a good idea if you want to just try it. My husband's cheese omelettes were quite good. Fluffy and savory. The addition of onions worked very well. I also tried the apple butter. I've had apple butter before, this is not anything different. Service was tops; our waitress was a wonderfully friendly old lady who was very prompt in bringing us anything we needed. This place is cash only. Really, in this day and age? A food truck can get away with that, but not this.
(3)Rahul V.
This was the only real decent breakfast place in Hot Springs. The food is as good as any home cooked food...nothing too exciting about any of the items. Pancakes are large and can easily fill with just one. The customer service was not in phase with some of the other reviews. They were somewhat almost rude. And as many others have already stated, bring cash cause they don't take any credit cards...you don't wanna get stuck in Hot Springs washing dishes.
(3)Eric R.
This joint knows what breakfast is all about! Pancakes like Grandmother used to make! Bacon came in a four piece order and was quite good. Although I didn't get the sausage this visit, I've had it before. It's ok, nothing more. Stick with the bacon. Apple butter is available. Syrup comes hot with plenty of butter. Clearly this is no health club, so don't go looking for diet low cal chow. It's VERY crowded on a Saturday so be prepared for a wait. BTW, be prepared to wait outside.
(3)Linette H.
This place was great. Super busy but glad we waited. Our waitress was quick, friendly, and efficient. Food was delicious! Loved both jellies served with our toast. Perfect end to our stay in Hot Springs.
(5)Sha B.
Bring your appetite when visiting this place. It can be a little overwhelming and chaotic at first due to the crowd and the place being tight but once you are seated, you get to relax a bit. We didn't have to wait because our party was smaller but larger groups (6 or more) had at least a 30 minute wait. Once seated our drink orders were taken. The "large" drink wasn't so large. Especially since the drinks were brought out before our food orders were even taken. We drank our juice before our food could even make it to the table. Anyhow, that's my little rant. On to the food. I ordered french toast, eggs, sausage, and grits. My daughter ordered a sausage omelette which came with toast. The food was delicious and filling. I mean it was too much for me to finish. Which is a great thing. I left feeling fulfilled. My only complaints are the parking can be tricky (we parked at a lot nearby) and I was a little surprised at the cost of our meal.
(4)Randall C.
Small tables. No free refills for Soda. They don't take credit card. Pretty good but not really anything worth going to Hot Springs for. I do like it better than Colonial Pancakes which is down the road.
(2)Jen T.
This place was good. I had the plain pancakes with blueberries on the side and enjoyed it. My son had the bacon omelet. Toast was nice and buttery and the whipped butter was delicious. Bacon was crispy. Ham had good flavor, but a little dry for me. Coffee was not my favorite. Best of all though - they now take credit cards!
(4)Dennis S.
Quaint little place in middle of town. Food and decor are nothing fancy but can't be beat. Waitstaff is very friendly and they have the best cup of coffee in town. They now take credit cards too.
(4)Joseph L.
Great place in downtown Hot Springs. Had the Buckwheat pancakes and was not disappointed. The guy that sat us and waited on us was a little intimidating at first, you could diffidently tell he was not from Arkansas, but after a while his friendliness took over and made us feel at home. Kept the coffee and water glasses full. Only down side is this place does not take plastic. Only saw the small "No Credit Cards" sign at the pay station after we received our meal. Great place, just rememberthe cash.
(3)Connie G.
Nostalgic atmosphere is awesome. That and the friendly service is the only reason for 3 stars. Otherwise what's the draw...my husband and I are clueless. And they are lined up to get in on the weekends, and weekdays we found were busy too. Ham was both tasty and a healthy portion. A Pancake, which should be there specialty, right? It was pasty and one bite was more than enough. Thought the omelet was the worst I had ever eaten. No hashbrowns, or biscuit n gravy:-((. Did not try the sausage which I regret. They are supposed to be known for that too, but I won't be going back. I go to breakfast to eat not for the service or atmosphere.
(3)S T.
Get the buckwheat pancakes. BRING CASH! Cash only here. Definitely a little divey, tourist trap, but it has a certain abrasive diner charm to it. And I don't mind snarky, as long as it's served with a side of bacon.
(5)Byron T.
Its well worth the wait, I had the BEST ham and cheese omelet, it was stuffed with ham, the best bacon, it was nice thin and crisp, I love it that way. They even had apple butter, like my grandmother did. Out waitress was nice and friendly, again it was well worth the wait. Next time Im up in Hot Springs I will be at the Pancake Shop for breakfast.
(5)Dee H.
Yum! Great diner atmosphere and good, quality food. The fruit pancakes are stuffed to the hilt with fresh fruit and no one looks at you sideways when you order a glass of milk. The bacon is crispy and the sausage is perfect. A local, family owned restaurant (now run by the daughter and her husband) and exactly what you need on a Sunday morning.
(5)Jeret W.
If you are in Hot Springs for breakfast this is a must! I have then make me a egg, sausage and cheese sandwich on rye. Also can fill up on the toast and apple butter. The wait staff in the past year has been somewhat of a disappointment but I can fight thru it. Robert was a excellent waiter today and brings speediness, a conversationalist and is a long time waiter.
(5)Lindsay W.
Delicious pancakes and breakfast staples. Service was incredibly fast and friendly. Only wish they took cards. They are cash or check only. Also, their business hours are different. Close at 12:45.... kind of unusual, why not just wait those extra 15 minutes? Otherwise it was a good meal and next time I visit Hot Springs I look forward to digging into a stack of pancakes
(3)Jeffery S.
Definitely a tourist trap and on weekends there is always a line, but if you can slip in with less than a 30 minute wait (very possible on week days), this place is well worth a stop. This place is a southern style breakfast joint without the roaches and flies. Breakfeast menu is pretty basic, pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon. Place doesn't offer hash browns but they do have grits. We were waited on by a bottle blonde with some impressive looking tattoos on her arms and a nice personality. Orders consisted of a "special" for me, eggs and sausage for one of my companions and cheese omlette for the other. I also asked for grapefruit juice. First of all, skip the juice, this stuff is from a can and is about as authentic as Faygo. The special I had was pretty tasty, scrambled eggs with chopped sausage. My friends eggs with sausage were interesting in that she got two eggs over easy with two of the biggest honking sausage patties I've ever seen. Cheese omlette was that, a standard cheese omlette. All orders came with the requisite toast. One observation, the ham that goes with the ham and eggs were likewise huge. Almost as big as a plate. If you like your pork meat, this joint is the real deal. Lets face it, the breakfast was pretty standard and people don't come here for the food. It was just a fun place to eat and the homey atmosphere made you comfortable to be here. Plus they don't gouge you like some touristy places. Just be sure to bring cash as they don't take credit cards.

Great blueberry pancakes, full of blueberries. Bacon side was OK, sliced a little thinner than I prefer. Great service. Pretty expensive for a breakfast, or they would get another star.

True Southern hospitality. The service here was fantastic. We came on a Monday morning and were the only customers- it was weird, especially since I expected a long wait. The food was simple, but good. We ordered two buckwheat pancakes with blueberry (from all of the other reviews) and the house special- scrambled eggs with chopped ham. The pancakes were unique, since it was buckwheat, but I'm not sure if I believe that the blueberries were fresh. It tasted like it could have been frozen, but it doesn't really matter, because there were tons of blueberries. The ham was also delicious- tasted like fresh off the bone, and the eggs were real- you could actually see the whites mixed in there. I liked the apple butter and apple jam they serve no matter what you order. I also tried the orange juice. It tasted like fresh squeezed, but I saw the concentrate container that they poured it from. Unless they squeeze it into that container... anyways, they ended up only charging $1.50 instead of the $3 it was supposed to be. Our meal total came out to something like $15. Definitely worth it.

Yummy in my tummy. Great breakfast stop. Very friendly service. Farm fresh eggs and perfectly cooked bacon. Awesome homemade apple butter, apple-grape jam, maple syrup, and butter. The buckwheat pancakes are heavenly too....make sure as the waitress said to cut a hole in the middle of your stack to pour your syrup or else it will get kind of messy. With beverage most tabs will be about $8 a piece.

Delicious pancakes but the seating area is cramped. Definitely no private conversations happening here

I used to love this place, and before our last visit I would have given it 5 stars without hesitation. I would give my most recent visit at 3 stars, so I'm averaging it out at 4 right now. I am only rating this place today based on the pancakes, which is in their name, and been the mainstay at this spot since opening. The buckwheat pancakes that I have gotten for years were smaller, thinner, and over cooked to the point of being a little crunchy. I will go back to this place, because I have had some of the best breakfasts I've ever eaten here, and I will revisit and update this review then. Good Coffee Good Bacon/Sausage Eggs Always cooked properly Be prepared for a wait, average wait time usually between 15-40 min on weekends

Seems like the place for breakfast in Hot Springs. Line out the door on a Sunday morning. I was a little dissapointed. I was hoping for a bit more charm. Typical hole in the wall greasy breakfast. I had the bacon omelette and hand squeezed orange juice. Average, nothing to write home about. Probably will try a different place next time I'm in hot springs

One of the only places open on a Tuesday morning. Our waitress who was an Aggie was perfect. The buckwheat blueberry pancakes were inspiring!!! What a great simple breakfast spot. Also, wonderful coffee.

Phenomenal!!! Homey atmosphere, accommodating, and delicious! Fresh food, home-style. Divine ham, velvety pancakes, smooth apple butter... Memorable breakfast. I highly recommend this place. Hubs & I went for breakfast both mornings of our weekend-getaway on our anniversary and definitely were glad we did!!

Saw all the great reviews and bookmarked this place for breakfast. I was a little put off by the wait time of over an hour but on the flip, thats a good sign that so many people like this place. Many were locals. I had 2 eggs and ham steak-the small which was more than half the size of my plate. Delicious ham. I also ordered one pancake that was huge, fluffy and really good. Totally hit the spot. My husband had a ham omelet which was stuffed with huge chunks of that same ham and a side of bacon also very good-thin and crispy, not burned nor wimpy. Glad I read the reviews because its true-CASH ONLY. My only complaint was that my chocolate milk could have been a little colder. They also serve soft drinks in cans so no refills. Better order ice tea if you are not a coffee drinker. Was pricey-$32 for two. For breakfast! But we ordered a side of this and a side of that. It was basically brunch for us so worth two meals. They close a little after noon.

Fast service even on busy weekends. The menu is very generous for the prices. Good coffee, great thick-cut bacon, and perfect pancakes. Convenient location to start your day in Hot Springs.
(4)Michael J.
The impolite woman behind the counter should be aware that when people show up 35 minutes before closing you don't make them feel like that is a burden for you. Also, maple flavored syrup is not the same as maple syrup. That may sound pedantic but there is a huge difference between the two.

This place has a very limited menu. We were looking for a place that could accommodate our group of 5 with seeral choices. I would've decided not to stay for a meal when we found out they do not offer biscuits, gravy, or any kind of potatoes but the others decided to just get breakfast over with. So we ordered eggs and toast. No one wanted pancakes and they don't offer much of anything else. Not worth waiting 30 minutes for.
(2)Brian E.
Blueberry pancake was great. Sausage was some of the best I have ever had. Eggs were just right and toast nice and buttery, but not overly so. I'm not a breakfast person, but wouldn't miss this place if I'm back in Hot Springs. Came back a 2nd time it was so good, but tried the bacon instead of sausage. Get both. Worth the wait. CASH ONLY
(5)Brent D.
This place is THE place for breakfast in Hot Springs. They ONLY take Cash... The coffee is so good my GF orders the beans online and has it shipped... The best coffee she has ever had PERIOD.. You will wait and you will adore this place...if you eat ONE place in Hot Springs eat here...
(4)Taylor W.
Good food, but has some down sides. Cash only. They don't serve hashbrowns. Long wait. Can be crowded at table. The food is pretty good though. Enjoyed the cheese omelet and grits. Nice to have rye toast as well.
(3)Mai H.
This place truly deserves a five star rating. As out of towners, we were looking for an extremely yummy breakfast spot. I ordered Blueberry Pancakes. When it came out, they were as large as my plate. They used fresh and alot of fresh blueberries in the batter. I could tell because each bite were filled of whole blueberries, not mushy frozen ones. It was served with Apple Butter and Apple Jam. My mom ordered Ham and Cheese Omelet. It was really tasty. They used real ham not the deli sliced kind. The eggs were real too not the watered down eggs you get @ IHOP. Yes the cheese was in there but nothing significant to mention. Service was good and place was clean. We will be back.
(5)Erin L.
Okay, I am only giving 3 stars because I felt the menu was lacking...the service was decent although my coffee only received one warm up. It had already gotten cold at that point. They were very busy and I believe there is a constant flow of patrons at this establishment mainly because it is across from the Arlington. I tend to be rather picky about breakfast, especially since it is difficult to mess it up. Next time, I'll pass..the tables were so close together, which that is a negative in my book. I like to have enough room to pass by-FYI I'm not a big person. The buckwheat pancakes weren't very flavorful and WTF-no biscuits and gravy or hashbrowns!!
(3)Scott R.
Old time breakfast place in downtown Hoy Springs. Menu is limited but quality is outstanding. The blueberry pancakes, one of my favorites, are the size of dinner plates. The sausage patties are the size of hamburger patties. My 8yo daughter finished off a couple of eggs and toast before I even got started and wanted more.
(4)Susan T.
This is a breakfast only place and you best get here before 12:45 p.m., because that's when it closes every day. This little diner will not disappoint. Fresh squeezed orange juice, ham that is literally a slab with the bone in it, homemade apple butter in which the server treated us to more with no reservation. The sausage was the real mccoy and the meat is locally prepared and spiced special for the shop. The pancakes can be filled with blueberries, banana, or apple. Everything, the portions and service, were generously provided. Cons? No hashbrowns or potatoes served here. Cash only.

I don't think you need to come to Hot Springs and not eat at The Pancake Shop. I liked eating there because I truly enjoy local diners. The atmosphere is very relaxed even though you will most likely sit very close to other patrons and the tables are kind of small. Our service was good and the buckwheat pancakes were also good. You really have to try to mess up a simple breakfast like a pancake, two eggs over medium and whole wheat toast. I was pleased with the meal, but I must say that my grapefruit juice was straight from the can. I was really hoping for some fresh juice, so that was a let down. Coffee was good & strong and kept warm for us. BUT, bring cash because just like the last two restaurants I ate at in Hot Springs, they don't accept any plastic.
(3)Erin R.
Eh, The Pancake Shop didn't live up to the hype. We went on a Sunday around 10:30 and had a short wait. My husband and I went next door to the Savory Pantry and had a fun time trying items. Finally we were called to eat. Our waitress was very hurried and seemed to be overworked. The price of simple pancakes seemed too height, but with the word of mouth the restaurant gets, I thought it might be worth it...wrong. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and half a grapefruit while my husband ordered a sausage and cheese omelet. He loved his omelet (no fluffy eggs here) and said it was some of the best breakfast sausage he has had. My pancakes tasted like every other average blueberry pancake. Cleanliness is not the strong point, I saw two bus boys repeatedly wipe their noses or the sweat off their brow then come fill my water glass. Waitresses would be balancing multiple plates on their arms, but the bottoms of the plates would be touching the food on the plate below. Maybe I'm just a prude about this stuff.
(3)Kirk B.
Don't see what all the fuss is about. Pancakes were above average but not sensational. They only take cash or check don't bring a debit card. Prices are high for what you get of course, but it's a tourist town. Expect to wait. Again the food is good but if you"re thinking it's something over the top to me it was not. I'm giving it 4 stars because the food is good but didn't think it was worthy of being written up in magazines.

If you're into waitresses that call you "sugar" and never let your cup go empty, you've come to the right place. At the grand old age of 71, The Pancake Shop is an important landmark for Hot Springs food lovers. I always get a pancake -- singular, as in one pancake. More than that is too much. Pancakes are 3/4 of an inch thick and 10" in diameter. The regular pancakes are good. I like their banana pancakes and have lately become enamoured with the apple pancakes with their nice blend of spices. If I have a big appetite I have to do an omelet. Flat tri-fold omelets aren't the big fluffy productions you get at other restaurants, but they don't have to be. I get the cheese omelet and it's packed from end to end. But what I really like is the apple butter. It has a delicious spice to it, notes of cinnamon and nutmeg and whathaveyou... splendid on toast. I like mixing just a little bit of regular butter with it. I could just survive on that alone, but I can't imagine not getting a pancake. Yes, it's like walking into a timewarp -- the menu has really not changed at all in half a century. The place is famous for its ham steaks and for its special blend of sausage. You can purchase either (or both) along with the coffee to take home. But if you want those pancakes, you gotta go there.
(5)Tisha E.
This is a small place that is CASH ONLY! I ordered the special which was sausage crumbled up in an egg with cheese, toast and a hashbrown. I ordered 1 banana pancake on the side. Long story short, that was WAY too much food for one person. But it was all good and I highly recommend this little gem of a place!
(4)Juan A.
definitively one of the better breakfast's of our stay in Arkansas. good food good price good feeling inside...like a classic diner feel, with that down south lovin' to boot!
(4)April N.
We walked here after church on a Sunday and it was about 15 minutes until they closed. The waitstaff wasn't rushing us and the service was fast. I ordered a big stack of their famous pancakes and shared it with my boyfriend. They were most probably the best pancakes I've ever had. Oooey and gooey and priced just right and the location couldn't be better. You can walk off all the calories by visiting all the shops downtown. I'll be going back here sometime soon.
(5)Hillary G.
I NEVER miss this place if I'm in Hot Springs. Reason #1: THE HAM. I don't even like ham that much & this ham is amazing. It's salty & juicy & fried & has crispy marks from the grill. Reason #2: the atmosphere. It really feels like stepping back into the 70s. Not manufactured, like a theme park would be. It feels like this place authentically hasn't changed since then...or rather that you've stolen the TARDIS & gone back to the 70s for the duration of breakfast. Reason #3: here we get to the pancakes. They're huge. Order less than you think you should; my husband & I share a stack of 2 pancakes & one ham steak. It's within walking distance of the Arlington & the Spring hotels, & it's right smack in the middle of the National Park district. Highly recommended, & not to be missed!
(5)Sandra T.
Barely average, ham was too salty to eat. Luckily we got there early before any crowds because I would have been seriously upset if I waited in line to get mediocer food. Don't waste your time or money. The apple butter was ok, but just like any decent apple butter you can buy at the store.
(2)Joel B.
Good, but not great. The eggs and ham came out soupy when I specifically ordered them well done. They came out better the next time around after I sent them back. The world famous pancake fell short of all my Austin stops... the Kerby on Kerby lane, the omlettry (sp), and star seeds. I tried the buckwheat with blueberry as recommended by the waitress. Also Cash only, who is cash only in 2011???.... get with the program.
(2)Jackie J.
This place was great! They're only open until Noon-30ish...but they have a waiting line all morning long. It was a short wait both days I was there though, and they have coffee available in their specialty shop next door. I was taken back in time (to a day before my time) in this nostalgic little diner. It's small and crowded but amazing... Their food is fresh, the servings are large, the prices are fair and I can't imaging leaving there hungry or unhappy. My friend and I thought of trying out a different place on day #2 of our trip but decided we'd rather go where we knew we'd enjoy the food. We did, however make one small change...we learned from our mistake on day #1 and shared this time! Our waitress the first day was Hope. She was very sweet and a good waitress. I would have given 5 stars...but, despite loving the nostalgia, it's still somewhat uncomfortable to sit so close to everyone. Nevertheless, I wouldn't change a thing. They've got a real gold mine there! FYI...No, they don't take Credit/Debit Cards (I know, right? One of the last places on Earth that doesn't!) but they will take your out of town/out of state check (believe it, they do) and of course cash. Luckily, I had my check book-I'm all about the debit card-I never have cash!) So, I didn't find this to be a problem, really. Besides, what a great way to remember how to write a check or count out change? Just show up hungry...you won't be disappointed. =P

Anyone in town will tell you The Pancake Shop is THE place for breakfast. It has a long history of serving people food, as well. The service is always nice, as well as the atmosphere. I would suggest their pancakes to anyone in the world. You will be a returning costumer. p.s. I suggest getting there as early as possible because of the long line and wait.
(5)Chris C.
Pretty damn good. Great service and excellent food. The one negative would have to be how crowed it is. I got there at about 1130 with a party if four and didn't get seated till around 12. With that wait in mind I kinda expected to be disappointed, but surprisingly wasn't. So if you can get there early enough and don't mind the wait this place is on point.
(4)Jack C.
The breakfast food they have is very good. Their pancakes are killers, and I loved their grapefruit juice. I thought the omelet and the orange juice were just okay. For their price tags though, I have to give it a below average for value. The juices were tasty, but they came in their fist-size cups that cost 5 dollars a cup. Everything else were expensive too, and I didn't like their toasts at all. Breakfast for two with tips cost us $40 plus.
(2)David R.
Delicious breakfast -- no hashbrowns though.
(4)Aaron P.
Having the opportunity to eat at numerous restaurants while traveling, the Pancake Shop is still a welcome place to sit down and enjoy an excellent breakfast. Although not the cheapest route, you get what you pay for, and in comparison to places that serve the same caliber of food, I consider it a bargain. There are some close seconds around central Arkansas but none offer quite the combination of good food, friendly atmosphere and solid service. Highly recommend.
(5)Mike M.
Cash only. Ugh. The blueberry buckwheat pancakes with a side of sausage and coffee are the reason I come here. I'm spoiled on Kerby Lane pancakes here in Austin, but the Pancake Shop in my hometown is right up there in the quality department, and might have the edge thanks to its total lack of hipster narcissism. My biggest issue comes from the cash register. More than once, the elderly gentleman who often works the register (owner?) has misread the waitress' handwriting on the ticket and grossly overcharged me. No amount of insisting that 1 is most definitely NOT a 2 seems to work on the guy. I don't know if it's intentional or simply an older man with not-so-great eyesight being unwilling to accept he made a mistake. We were less than excited to pay more than twice our actual bill, especially when he offered to call the police to sort the matter out, although on the second occasion the waitress was actually able to convince him that two short stacks, an order of sausage and two coffees were not $28.
(3)Kerry M.
Great friendly staff, coffee was excellent, food was good and prices were great! Will always come here when visiting Hot Springs !
(5)Eddie G.
If you don't really like food, the Pancake shop is for you. They only serve breakfast, and their selection is limited to the bare bones basics. Eggs, pancakes, pork. I don't eat much pork, so there wasn't a whole lot to choose from. The cheese omelette, for instance, comes with American cheese. No other choices. I asked for the home fries 'well done', only to learn they don't even have potatoes. This place has charm in an old school way, but the food ridiculous.
(2)Chuck D.
if you don't want pancakes try the "special" which is basically a scramble. i like it with ham AND bacon. you get tons of ham which is one of the things the PS's known for. i have it with buttered whole wheat toast and coffee. if you're famished get a side of cheese grits.
(4)Charlene C.
Don't be fooled by the long waiting lines! The food is not worth it. While the staff is friendly and the service decent (though most of the tables around us didn't have any food by the time our table was called for us to be seated). I ordered a ham and cheese omelet - the 'southern' ham was in large cubes that had been tossed on the grill before plopping it into the eggs, so there was grease on my plate. The eggs were as flat as pancakes...the thinnest omelet I've ever seen. The one little slice of American cheese was pretty flavorless (cheddar would have been a much better option) and the eggs overcooked the means brown and dry. I just don't understand people in the business of serving breakfast who don't get that HOT isn't the way you cook eggs.....low and slow gives you the perfect omelet. Onward to the pancakes which are very large, but that doesn't mean they're good. 3 people in our group ordered them and no one was happy. If you can't even cut the bottom of a pancake using a knife, you know you're in trouble. The bacon was as thin as a sheet of paper, very crispy with a smokey flavor (nice); sausage patties were flavorful and ample. The toast was served cold. As a final note - the prices they charge for what you get is outrageous! You'd probably get a better pancake from McDonald's...seriously.
(1)Heather K.
I believe it is now $0.80 for a bowl of blueberries on the side, but this is still the best place for breakfast in Hot Springs. The service is warm and friendly, and they are quick with the coffee refills.
(5)Paul O.
Food was good but the selection isn't. Good coffee and service though.
(3)April B.
Great little place to grab a quick breakfest. Food is good and serive is friendly and quick.
(4)Bonnie S.
They have their sausages made for them.
(3)Jennifer H.
Nom. Go there.

My hometown, Memphis, was recently named "America's Fattest City." Apparently, the folks in Hot Springs are trying to catch up. But I'm not complaining. The Pancake Shop is located on the main drag downtown, right across the street from The Arlington. My buddy and I stopped by on a Sunday for a late breakfast, each ordering a stack of 3 buckwheat blueberry pancakes plus a side of sausage (patties). He considered ordering an egg as well, but changed his mind at the last minute. Good thing, too--our pancakes were enormous; basically, I had a stack of three buckwheat blueberry frisbees. They were excellent, but I made it through only about two of them before throwing in the (paper) towel. The sausage was, well, sausage...very tasty and all...I just choose to pretend it grows on a sausage tree. A couple of notes: The restaurant was incredibly busy, and we had to wait about 20 minutes before we were seated...and the waiting room was the sidewalk outside the restaurant. Fortunately, the Pancake Shop appears to be affiliated with the gift shop next door, which offered free coffee to waiting restaurant patrons. Also, bring cash, because that's all the Pancake Shop accepts...fortunately, you won't have to bring too much of it.
